biography
Jürgen Lingl was born in Bad Tölz, Bavaria, Germany, in 1971. He was already artistically active as a child, drawing and painting everything around him — animals, people, buildings, landscapes. After graduating from high school and completing his military and civilian service, he began training as a wood sculptor under master craftsman Hans-Joachim Seitfudem.
He received awards for his apprenticeship piece and final project: he won the first prize in Munich and Bavaria and was awarded second place at the national level (in Germany).
In 1996, Lingl moved to Switzerland to work as a freelance artist. A few years later (in 1999), he settled in France, where he still today lives and works.
Lingl primarily works as a sculptor. His materials mainly include wood and bronze.
The central tool for his sculptures is the chainsaw — he uses it like a pencil: precisely, expressively, with marks that reveal movement, energy, and impermanence.
Thematically, his focus is strongly on the animal kingdom: predators such as wolves, panthers, lions, but also birds and animals from various regions. In addition, he occasionally sculpts religious motifs, sacred figures, monumental works, as well as nudes and scenes from nature.
Many of his works are characterized by a high degree of vibrancy and attention to detail — animals, for example, appear “alive,” as if frozen in time.
His sculptures are impressive in their size (some are monumental wooden sculptures) and appear powerful, emotional, and physically tangible.
